The West Milford Lions Club honored the winners of the 2025-26 Peace Poster Contest during a Board of Education meeting on February 3, 2026. Seventh-grader Dayanara Sanchez secured first place, while sixth-grader Harlow Suhey earned the runner-up position. The contest invited students aged 11 to 13 to create posters reflecting the theme “Together As One,” emphasizing the power of unity among individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Encouraging Artistic Expression for Peace

The Lions Peace Poster Contest has been a platform for young artists to express their visions of peace through art for nearly 40 years. Sponsored by Lions Clubs worldwide, it encourages students to showcase their creativity while addressing significant themes. This year’s theme, “Together As One,” resonates with the organization’s mission to promote understanding and cooperation across cultures.

Macopin Middle School has actively participated in this initiative over the years, consistently producing talented young artists. The recognition of Sanchez and Suhey highlights the school’s commitment to fostering creativity and social awareness among its students.

The West Milford Lions Club, part of Lions Clubs International, the world’s largest service organization, has more than 1.4 million members across over 49,000 clubs globally. The organization focuses on community service and humanitarian efforts, making the Peace Poster Contest a fitting component of its mission.

Impact on Students and Community

The contest not only showcases artistic talent but also instills values of peace and collaboration among students. By participating, young artists learn to appreciate the importance of unity and the impact of their voices in promoting peace. The recognition received during the Board of Education meeting further motivates these students to engage in community activities and express their thoughts creatively.

As the winners celebrate their achievements, the West Milford Lions Club encourages all students to continue exploring their artistic abilities and contribute positively to society. The Peace Poster Contest serves as a reminder that through art and collaboration, individuals can work towards a common goal of peace and understanding.
