The Hanover Theatre Repertory has appointed Jamie Wax, star of “Call Me Izzy” and an Emmy-winning correspondent for CBS, as its inaugural Playwright-in-Residence. This initiative aims to foster original work within the region and enhance the theatrical landscape in Worcester. Over the course of a four-week residency, Wax has utilized the theatre’s resources to develop his writing while collaborating with local artists.

The residency will culminate with staged readings of Wax’s new play, which focuses on three high-risk expectant mothers and two overworked nurses in the maternity wing of a newly integrated hospital in Louisiana. These readings are scheduled for March 6 and March 8 at the BrickBox Theater, located within the Jean McDonough Arts Center at 20 Franklin St. The event promises to offer audiences a unique early look at a significant work in development, featuring a cast that includes Broadway actor Johanna Day.

This initiative reflects the Hanover Theatre Repertory’s commitment to enriching the local arts ecosystem by attracting talent and creating professional opportunities for artists. According to a press release, THT Rep aims to bring new work to the community instead of relying solely on larger coastal markets.

In addition to the residency program, the Hanover Theatre will host Colin Quinn, a veteran comedian known for his work on “Saturday Night Live” and the cult-favorite game show “Remote Control.” Quinn’s performance is set for March 7 at Tuckerman Hall, located at 10 Tuckerman St., starting at 19:00.

Later in April, the theatre will present “Bat Out Of Hell – The Musical,” which features songs from Meat Loaf’s iconic albums. This one-night-only event will take place on April 23 at 19:30 and promises to deliver a high-energy experience with a cast of world-class singers and musicians.

Additionally, tickets are now available for a performance by Gina Brillon, a finalist from “America’s Got Talent.” Her show at the BrickBox Theater on May 8 will showcase her engaging humor, which addresses themes of family and identity. Brillon’s latest special, “Mind Your Business,” quickly garnered over a quarter of a million views upon its release.
