The 2026 Governors Ball, held on March 12, 2026, provided a festive atmosphere for Oscar winners and attendees immediately following the Academy Awards. This event marked the first stop for many victors, who celebrated their achievements in a lavish setting filled with gourmet food and floral displays.

Located just an escalator ride from the Dolby Theatre, the ballroom was adorned with over 12,500 flowers, including blush roses, anthurium, and vibrant orchids. For guests, the evening featured an array of culinary delights, including sliders, spring rolls, and short rib bao buns, ensuring that even those who did not take home an award had much to enjoy.

A focal point of the evening was the engraving stage, where winners had their Oscars personalized. Among those spotted at the engraving platform were Maggie Kang, co-writer and co-director of “KPop Demon Hunters,” who received the Oscar for animated feature; Kate Hawley, winner of the best costume design for “Frankenstein”; and Joachim Trier, who won for his international feature “Sentimental Value.”

Perhaps the most notable moment came from Autumn Durald Arkapaw, who made history as the first female cinematographer and first Black director of photography to win an Oscar. Looking ecstatic, Arkapaw accepted her award alongside her young son, who stood close by as she documented the moment with her phone.

As the engraved Oscars were broadcast on large screens for all attendees to see, a flurry of photographers captured the winners with their newly acquired trophies. Maggie Kang expressed her joy upon descending the stage, exclaiming “yay” while proudly holding her Oscar. During her acceptance speech, she dedicated her victory “to all the fans who got us here and for all of those who look like me.”

After the engravings, the atmosphere grew even more electric as Ryan Coogler, the director of “Sinners,” made his way to the stage. The excitement in the room was palpable as guests rushed to catch a glimpse of the winners. Lead actors Michael B. Jordan and Jessie Buckley also made an appearance together, with Buckley beaming at Jordan as he held his Oscar aloft.

The celebratory mood continued as Paul Thomas Anderson, whose film “One Battle After Another” won six awards, had his Oscar engraved. His partner, Maya Rudolph, proudly watched from the sidelines. Anderson had earlier encouraged attendees to celebrate the evening with a martini during his acceptance speech for best picture.

Throughout the night, nearly 20,000 glasses of specialty cocktails, champagne, and other beverages were served. Servers navigated through the crowd with trays of smoked salmon and caviar on Oscar-shaped crackers, as well as chicken nuggets topped with caviar. Approximately 30 pounds of caviar was consumed during the festivities.

For about an hour after the main ceremony, the Governors Ball stands out as a highlight of Oscar night. However, as the evening progressed, many guests moved on to exclusive after-parties hosted by various studios, including the highly sought-after Vanity Fair party, which was held for the first time at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and did not permit outside media coverage.

The Governors Ball remains a vibrant space for celebration, filled with stars, gourmet cuisine, and the thrill of recognition, encapsulating the essence of Hollywood glamour following one of the industry’s most prestigious nights.
