Aventon has launched its latest electric mountain bike, the Current, introducing a full-suspension eMTB that combines advanced performance with competitive pricing. Priced at $4,599, the Current offers features typically associated with bikes priced between US $6,000 and $9,000, marking a significant move for the company into the high-performance segment.

The Current is designed as a versatile trail machine, featuring modern geometry along with Aventon’s custom mid-drive motor system. This bike is intended for riders seeking robust off-road capabilities without the premium price tag associated with established brands. The bike is equipped with Aventon’s Ultro X mid-drive motor, delivering up to 750W of peak power, which increases to 850W in BOOST mode, producing a torque of 110 Nm—rising to 120 Nm when activated. It offers up to 400% pedal assist, or 500% in BOOST mode, enabling riders to tackle steep climbs efficiently.

Powering the Current is an integrated 800 Wh battery, with a potential range of up to 105 miles (approximately 169 km) depending on riding conditions. The battery weighs around 4.2 kg and takes about six hours to recharge using the provided charger. Due to its integrated design, riders will need to charge it on the bike, unless they remove it for servicing.

The bike’s frame is made of 6061 aluminum, featuring a 64.6-degree head tube angle for stability during descents, paired with a steeper 76.6-degree seat tube angle for optimal climbing posture. The 445 mm chainstays and large 29-inch wheels aim to balance stability and agility on technical trails.

Suspension components include a RockShox Psylo Gold fork with 150 mm of travel in the front and a RockShox Deluxe Select+ rear shock providing 140 mm at the back. This configuration is designed to help smooth out rough terrains while ensuring efficient pedaling on climbs. The drivetrain features SRAM Eagle components, specifically a 12-speed SRAM Eagle 70 transmission, an 11-50T cassette, and a 34T chainring. Braking is managed by SRAM DB8 Stealth hydraulic disc brakes with 200 mm rotors.

In addition to traditional mountain bike features, Aventon emphasizes technology integration. The Current includes a wireless control pad with an integrated touchscreen display, allowing customization of assist behavior through the Ride Tune system. The bike also boasts Aventon’s ACU platform, offering 4G connectivity, GPS tracking, an integrated alarm system, and anti-theft features. For enthusiasts, the bike includes Wheel Lift Control to help maintain front wheel contact during steep climbs and Air Time tracking to log jumps and airborne moments.

Weighing in at 56 pounds, the Current supports riders from heights of 5’3” to 6’1”, with options for small, medium, large, and extra-large frame sizes. For those looking for enhanced specifications, Aventon offers the Current EXP at $5,999, featuring upgraded components including a carbon frame and superior braking and suspension systems.

As Aventon continues to expand its offerings in the electric mountain bike market, the Current ADV represents a serious entry into the full-suspension eMTB category, showcasing a blend of performance and affordability. The inclusion of advanced technology may attract a new demographic of riders interested in integrating digital features into their mountain biking experience, potentially reshaping the landscape of the eMTB community.
