Ohio State Football Secures Five Five-Star Recruits for 2026 Class
Ohio State University has achieved a significant milestone in college football recruiting, tying with Notre Dame for the most five-star recruits in the final rankings for the 2026 class, as published by Rivals. Both schools boast five elite prospects from a total of 32 who earned five-star status in this recruiting cycle.
Among Ohio State’s exceptional recruits is cornerback Jay Timmons, who stands out as the highest-ranked signee for the Buckeyes, coming in at No. 12 overall and the No. 1 cornerback in the Rivals rankings. Following him, wide receiver Jerquaden Guilford is ranked as the No. 17 overall prospect and the No. 2 wide receiver in the class, surpassing fellow teammate Chris Henry Jr., who holds the No. 31 overall and No. 4 wide receiver positions.
In addition to Timmons and Guilford, Ohio State’s five-star contingent includes Khary Wilder, ranked No. 22 overall and No. 6 edge rusher, and Cincere Johnson, recognized as the No. 1 linebacker and No. 26 overall prospect. This impressive collection of talent underscores Ohio State’s continued prominence in college football recruiting.
Competition Among Elite Programs
Notre Dame remains the only other institution to match Ohio State’s five five-star recruits, solidifying both schools’ positions at the top of the 2026 class rankings. Following closely behind are Louisiana State University (LSU) and the University of Michigan, each with three five-star prospects. These rankings incorporate information from various sources, including 247Sports and ESPN, illustrating the competitive landscape of college football recruiting.
Despite this strong showing, Ohio State ranks behind several institutions, including the University of Southern California (USC), Notre Dame, the University of Oregon, the University of Georgia, and the University of Alabama for the best overall recruiting class. This ranking highlights the ongoing competition among elite programs as they aim to attract the most talented young athletes.
The success of Ohio State in securing these five-star recruits is indicative of the program’s sustained excellence and commitment to building a championship-caliber team. As the NCAA recruiting cycle progresses, the impact of these young athletes on the future of the Buckeyes will be closely monitored by fans and analysts alike.
In related news, Ohio State has seen significant movement in its roster through the transfer portal, adding 18 transfers while losing 31 players. This dynamic shift in personnel further emphasizes the evolving nature of college football and the strategic considerations teams must navigate to remain competitive.
As the 2026 recruiting class solidifies, Ohio State’s position as a powerhouse in college football is reaffirmed, paving the way for a promising future. The commitment of these five-star prospects will undoubtedly play a crucial role in the Buckeyes’ quest for continued success on the field.
