The City of Lewisville Public Library is hosting the StoryCorps Mobile Tour, inviting residents from the Dallas-Fort Worth area to document their personal stories from December 5 to 8, 2023. This initiative aims to encourage individuals to share their experiences, whether they are significant milestones or everyday moments that have shaped their lives.

The StoryCorps Mobile Tour will be stationed at the Lewisville Public Library, located at 1197 W. Main Street. Participants will have the opportunity to record their narratives with the support of StoryCorps staff, who will provide both the equipment and guidance needed to preserve these stories. Individuals interested in participating can book their sessions for December 5, 6, and 8 by visiting the library’s website or by contacting the Adult Services Desk at 972.219.3779.

Each recording will not only provide participants with a digital copy of their session but will also allow them to contribute to the collective memory of the nation. Their recordings can be included in the StoryCorps digital archive at the Library of Congress’s American Folklife Center. As stated in the city’s announcement, StoryCorps aims “to help us believe in each other by illuminating the humanity and possibility in us all — one story at a time.”

In addition to the recording sessions, the library will host a free “Preserving Stories Workshop” on Saturday, December 6. This workshop will educate attendees about the tools available for personal and family history archiving. Scheduled to take place from 11 a.m. to noon in the Bennett Program Room on the first floor, the event does not require prior registration, making it accessible to all interested individuals.

The collaboration between the Lewisville Public Library and StoryCorps highlights the importance of personal storytelling in fostering community connections and preserving cultural heritage. As residents share their unique experiences, they contribute to a broader understanding of the diverse narratives that shape American life.
