Louise K. Breitung, Dedicated Community Leader, Passes Away at 87

Louise K. Breitung, a respected community leader and dedicated professional, passed away on January 23, 2026, in Dallas, Texas. She was 87 years old. Born on August 16, 1938, in Chester, New York, Louise made significant contributions to her community throughout her life.

A graduate of Russell Sage College in Troy, New York, Louise dedicated over 35 years of her career to the Ulster County Cooperative Extension in Kingston, New York. Her commitment to education and community service was evident in her interactions with colleagues and the families she supported. Louise cherished the opportunity to empower individuals and strengthen the community through her work.

After her retirement, she relocated to Dallas to be closer to her family. This move allowed her to enjoy the company of her daughters and grandchildren, further enriching her life. Louise is survived by her daughters, Alison Breitung of Dallas, Texas, and Helen Combs of Birmingham, Alabama. She was a proud grandmother to her grandson, David, and her granddaughter, Addison. Louise is also survived by her brother, Leon Kakargo, of Chester, New York. She was preceded in death by her sister, Frances Conneman.

Services will be held privately for family members in Dallas, reflecting her wishes for a personal and intimate farewell. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to the Cornell Cooperative Extension Ulster County at 232 Plaza Road, Kingston, NY 12401, honoring Louise’s lifelong dedication to community service.
