Carol Stent, Beloved Wife and Advocate for Animals, Passes Away
Carol A. Stent, a cherished wife, dedicated advocate for animals, and a vibrant presence in her community, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 22, 2025, at her home in Overton, Nevada. She was surrounded by her beloved husband, David Nakahara.
A Life of Adventure and Compassion
Born on July 14, 1939, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Carol was the daughter of John and Jenny (Slajinsky) Prespolis. She graduated in the Class of 1957 from Saint Mary’s of the Annunciation, where she formed lifelong friendships with classmates and the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur who guided her education.
Carol’s adventurous spirit led her to San Francisco, California, where she and four classmates embarked on new careers and formed lasting bonds. Her beauty and zest for life captivated many, including Raymond Michael Stent, a young medical intern from England. The couple married at Wayfarers Chapel after Raymond completed his residency at U.C.L.A. and became board-certified in neurology. They later divorced in the 1980s.
In 1989, Carol found love again with David Nakahara, an attorney based in Torrance, California. They were married in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 20 of that year. The couple eventually moved to Las Vegas, where they shared their lives with numerous pets, lovingly referred to as their “fur babies.”
A Legacy of Love and Service
Carol’s passion for animals and commitment to her community were evident throughout her life. She played a crucial role in supporting David as he cared for his aging parents, offering them advice and assistance during their final years. All of this occurred while she herself was recovering from a stroke that left her partially paralyzed.
Her vibrant personality and unwavering spirit illuminated the lives of those around her. Carol is survived by her husband, David, and her sisters: Paula Couture of Dracut, Massachusetts and Naples, Florida, Janet Buchino of Randolph, Massachusetts and Naples, Florida, and Helen Botehlo of Conway, South Carolina.
“Soli Deo Gloria . . . Only To God the Glory.”
Carol A. Stent’s life was marked by love, adventure, and compassion. Her contributions to her family and community will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
