Community Mourns Loss of Dedicated Advocate Mary Lee Povroznik

Mary Lee Povroznik, a respected public servant and passionate animal advocate, passed away on August 13, 2025, after a ten-year battle with breast cancer. She was 71 years old and lived in Westover, West Virginia. Her dedication to the community through her role as an EMT/paramedic with Mon County EMS and various medical and government positions left a lasting impact on many lives in Morgantown.
Born on July 27, 1954, to Glenna and Herbert Martin, Mary Lee spent her life devoted to public service and animal rescue. She played a significant role in facilitating the rescue of numerous dogs and cats throughout her life, reflecting her deep compassion for animals.
Legacy and Community Impact
Mary Lee’s contributions to her community extended far beyond her professional life. Her work as an EMT and her advocacy for animal welfare showcased her commitment to helping others. Friends and family have expressed their sorrow, remembering her as a person who tirelessly supported those in need and advocated for causes she believed in.
She is survived by her loving husband, Tim Povroznik, with whom she shared 37 years of marriage. Mary Lee is also mourned by her son, Jamie Povroznik, his wife Lindsey, and her three grandchildren, Frankie, Dottie, and Toby, who affectionately called her Nanny.
Visitation and Memorial Details
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Mary Lee’s life at Smith Funeral & Cremation Care located at 108 Holland Avenue, Westover, on August 16, 2025, from 15:00 to 19:00 (3 to 7 p.m.). Following the visitation, her wishes will be honored with cremation.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Tonie’s Fund, an organization dedicated to supporting the early detection of breast cancer. This cause holds special significance for the family, as both Mary Lee and her husband Tim’s cousin, Tonie, lost their battles with the disease. Donations can be made at toniesfund.org.
