Beloved Community Leader Gail Seagraves Passes Away at 84

Gail Joyce Seagraves, a cherished member of the South Point community, passed away on January 10, 2026, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia. She was 84 years old and had been hospitalized for nine weeks. Her departure is felt deeply among family, friends, and the many lives she touched throughout her lifetime.

Born in Cincinnati, Gail moved with her family to Ironton at the age of three, where she was raised. A proud graduate of Ironton High School Class of 1959, she later attended Ashland Community and Technical College (ACTC). Gail dedicated many years to her professional career, retiring from Ashland Oil, Inc.. Additionally, she had previously worked at Wilson Sporting Goods and Blanton Chiropractic. Known for her dependability and warm spirit, she provided exceptional care to both coworkers and customers.

Gail’s greatest passion was her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, fully embracing the joy of every moment spent with her loved ones. Her home was characterized by warmth, laughter, and open arms, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and selflessness.

Gail was preceded in death by her parents, Sherman Mace Beaver and Mary Jane Beaver, her husband Glen Seagraves, her grandson Scottie Seagraves, and siblings Earl Roszell, Agnes Beard, and Brenda Hopkins. She is survived by her children, Robyn Adkins (Mike) and Greg Seagraves (Cathy), along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family includes 22 great-grandchildren who brought her immeasurable joy, as well as her sisters Rose Newman and Donna Taylor, and many extended family members.

A Life of Service and Community Engagement

A faithful member of Solida Baptist Church in South Point, Gail served her congregation with dedication for many years. She taught Sunday School, assisted with Vacation Bible School, and was affectionately known as the “Kool-Aid Lady” by generations of children. Her commitment to her church extended to attending classes at the Solida School of the Bible, where she was often seen placing hymnals in pews every Saturday, quietly serving the Lord she loved deeply.

In addition to her church activities, Gail and her husband were actively involved in supporting local children through Little League. Their enthusiasm and love for the young athletes and their families created a sense of community that many still cherish.

Gail’s life was a testament to faithful service, humility, and joy, resonating through the countless individuals she impacted with her kindness, laughter, and unwavering faith. Her family takes comfort in the belief that she is now in the presence of her Savior, having heard the words, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”

A Christian funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. at Solida Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Aaron Childers and Rev. Bruce Day. Visitation is scheduled for two hours prior, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.. Burial will take place the following day, January 16, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Highland Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will include family members and friends who shared in her life.
