Sony has begun rolling out the Android 16 update for its flagship device, the Xperia 1 VII. This follows a series of launch challenges that previously led the company to halt sales of the smartphone. Originally introduced in May 2023 with Android 15, the new update has started reaching users, according to reports on social media platforms, including Reddit.

The firmware associated with this release is designated as 71.1.A.2.68 and has a size of approximately 1.13 GB. While the update appears to be the European version of Android 16, users in different regions may notice variations in their update versions. Unfortunately, the update does not include a changelog, leaving many users uncertain about the specific enhancements. Notably, the security patch remains dated at August 2025, indicating that the update does not incorporate the latest security improvements available as of September 2025.
