PlayStation Studios continues to expand its portfolio with a variety of first-party developers engaged in exciting projects. This article provides an overview of the key studios under the PlayStation umbrella, highlighting their locations, histories, and current developments. With significant releases anticipated in the coming years, it is an exciting time for fans of PlayStation games.

Japanese Studios Leading the Charge

In Japan, the heart of PlayStation Studios beats strong with several prominent developers.

Polyphony Digital, established in 1998 and located in Tokyo, is renowned for its flagship racing simulation franchise, Gran Turismo. Since its launch, the studio has consistently supported Gran Turismo 7 with free updates that introduce new events and vehicles. While current efforts focus on enhancing this title, groundwork for the next iteration of Gran Turismo is expected to be underway.

Another key player is Team Asobi, which emerged from the remnants of Japan Studio. Known for titles like Astro Bot Rescue Mission and Astro’s Playroom, this studio is also based in Tokyo and was established in 2021. With post-launch support for Astro Bot concluded, the team is likely developing its next project, although specifics remain undisclosed.

European Creators Crafting Unique Experiences

Across Europe, several studios are driving innovation within the PlayStation ecosystem.

Founded in 2013 in Liverpool, England, Firesprite has evolved from its origins at Studio Liverpool. The studio is rumored to be working on a horror game, tentatively titled Project Heartbreak, which may be related to the Until Dawn franchise.

In Amsterdam, Guerrilla Games, established in 2000, is well-regarded for the Horizon series. The studio is currently developing an online co-op game alongside a PC and mobile MMO, with expectations that Horizon 3 is also in the planning stages.

Meanwhile, Housemarque, located in Helsinki, Finland, has gained acclaim for its arcade-style action games, including Returnal. Acquired by Sony in 2021, the studio is now focused on Saros, a rogue-lite action game slated for release in April 2026.

North American Powerhouses Shaping the Future

In North America, several of Sony’s most recognized studios are hard at work on upcoming titles.

Bend Studio, established in 1993 in Bend, Oregon, is known for the Syphon Filter series and the recent Days Gone. While details about their next project remain undisclosed, it has been confirmed that it will not be a sequel to Days Gone.

Insomniac Games, founded in 1994 in Burbank, California, is currently developing Marvel’s Wolverine, with a release expected in Fall 2026. The studio has also likely begun work on Marvel’s Spider-Man 3, following the success of its previous titles.

Another noteworthy studio, Naughty Dog, has a long history of creating iconic franchises such as Crash Bandicoot and The Last of Us. Based in Santa Monica, California, since its establishment in 1984, the studio is now working on a new sci-fi action-adventure game titled Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, expected to launch in 2027.

Finally, Santa Monica Studio, creators of the God of War series, are reportedly shifting focus after the release of God of War Ragnarök. Job listings suggest the next project will also be an action game, with speculation about a potential Greek-themed spin-off.

The landscape of PlayStation Studios is rich with talent and creativity, ensuring that fans have much to look forward to in the upcoming years. As these developers continue to work on new and innovative titles, the gaming community remains eager to see how these projects unfold.
