Hyundai Unveils Largest Electric Vehicle with Cutting-Edge Tech
Hyundai has announced plans to unveil its largest electric vehicle (EV) to date at the Brussels Motor Show, set to begin on January 9, 2026. This introduction is a significant milestone in the company’s ongoing electrification strategy in Europe, showcasing advanced technologies such as an 800-volt charging system. Alongside this debut, the updated IONIQ 6 will also make its first appearance at a European motor show.
The Brussels Motor Show will serve as a platform for Hyundai to highlight its ambitious roadmap for EV development, which includes a variety of new models tailored for the European market. Reports indicate that the company’s new model is designed to complement its existing lineup, which ranges from the compact INSTER to the larger three-row Ioniq 9. At over five meters long, the Ioniq 9 already occupies a significant space in European vehicle dimensions, suggesting that Hyundai’s next offering will further diversify its market presence rather than replicate existing formats.
A teaser image has sparked speculation about the vehicle’s design, which features a full-width LED light bar. Additionally, earlier reports have mentioned the possibility of an electric version of the Staria people mover, which measures 5.25 meters in length and is currently available with gasoline, diesel, and hybrid powertrains. An electric Staria is anticipated to launch in 2026, with Europe identified as a key market and projected annual global sales of up to 20,000 units, according to Motor1.
Expanding Electric Vehicle Portfolio
Hyundai’s significant showcase at the Brussels Motor Show underscores the event’s importance for global automakers, particularly in the realm of EVs. In addition to the large electric vehicle, sister brand Kia will also reveal its smallest EV, the production-ready EV2, along with performance-oriented GT versions of the EV3, EV4, and EV5.
In December, Hyundai also ventured into robotics by unveiling the MobED, a compact autonomous robot designed for both industrial and daily use. This innovation was showcased at the iREX 2025 event in Tokyo, reflecting the company’s commitment to technological advancement beyond traditional automotive offerings.
As the European Union deliberates on potentially easing its planned post-2035 ban on combustion engines, Hyundai’s focus on electric mobility remains unwavering. The firm is actively enhancing its EV features and capabilities to meet evolving market demands.
Advancements in Hydrogen Mobility
Earlier this year, Hyundai introduced the next-generation NEXO hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle at the 2025 Seoul Mobility Show, demonstrating notable progress in its hydrogen mobility strategy. The updated NEXO offers enhancements in design, onboard technology, and fuel cell efficiency. The upgraded fuel cell system now provides 110 kW of gross power, representing a 16 percent increase over the previous model.
This is paired with a more robust electric motor producing 150 kW and 350 Nm of torque, allowing the NEXO to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds. The redesigned battery system further supports performance, doubling the power output to 80 kW and increasing energy storage to 2.64 kWh. The hydrogen storage system has also seen improvements, now capable of storing 6.69 kg of usable hydrogen across three tanks, extending the driving range to over 700 km per refill under Korean test standards.
According to the company, these advancements reinforce Hyundai’s commitment to developing hydrogen-powered vehicles alongside its battery-electric and hybrid technologies, positioning the brand as a leader in zero-emission mobility solutions.
As Hyundai prepares for its major unveilings in Brussels, the automotive landscape continues to evolve, with the company at the forefront of both electric and hydrogen fuel cell advancements.
