OpenAI Unveils Enhanced ChatGPT Deep Research with GPT-5.2
OpenAI has introduced significant upgrades to its ChatGPT Deep Research feature, now powered by the advanced GPT-5.2 model. This enhancement aims to facilitate users in conducting comprehensive, multi-step research tasks with improved accuracy and efficiency. The new capabilities allow for real-time modifications and refinements to research requests, marking a notable evolution in the functionality of AI-assisted research.
The Deep Research feature, originally launched in 2023 with the OpenAI o3 model, has undergone a series of improvements over the past year. The initial version focused on web browsing and data analysis but was later enhanced with the cost-efficient o4-mini model. The transition to the GPT-5.2 model signifies OpenAI’s commitment to providing users with more reliable and detailed research reports.
New Features Enhance User Experience
With the latest updates, users can now connect Deep Research to any Managed Control Panel (MCP) or application, allowing them to limit web searches to specific, authenticated sources. This adjustment addresses previous concerns regarding the accuracy of reports generated from the entire web, which sometimes included unreliable information. By focusing on industry-standard sources, the reports generated are expected to be more credible and relevant.
Another significant improvement is the ability for users to track research progress in real-time. Previously, once a report preparation began, users had no option to adjust their research requests. The new functionality allows them to interrupt the process and provide follow-up prompts or introduce new sources, tailoring the research output to better meet their needs.
OpenAI has also revamped the visual interface of the Deep Research feature. Users can now navigate their research more easily, with a full-screen view of the final report and a table of contents for straightforward navigation. This enhancement aims to streamline the research process, making it user-friendly from start to finish. Once the report is finalized, users have the option to share it or download it in either PDF or DOCX formats.
The upgrades to the ChatGPT Deep Research feature reflect OpenAI’s ongoing efforts to refine its offerings and meet the evolving needs of its users. By prioritizing accuracy and user control, OpenAI is positioning itself as a leader in AI-driven research tools, catering to both casual users and professionals seeking reliable information.
