Holiverse Champions Space Solar Power to Fuel AI Revolution
The energy demands of artificial intelligence are escalating, prompting key industry figures to explore innovative solutions. Training a single advanced AI model can consume more electricity than 120 U.S. homes use in a year. With projections indicating that data center energy demand could double before 2030, the existing power grid is struggling to keep pace. Lado Okhotnikov, founder of the holistic biotech platform Holiverse, emphasizes the urgency of this challenge.
“The problem is becoming especially urgent now, as AI is advancing rapidly and its energy demands are growing just as fast,” Okhotnikov states. He believes that this issue extends beyond technology and into the very foundation of our future. “Even today, we must think about where we will source that energy without compromising people’s lives or existing industries.”
As many look to renewable energy as a possible solution, Okhotnikov acknowledges that significant progress has been made. “Renewable energy collected on Earth is no longer a fantasy: many countries are actively transitioning to it, and I hope this shift will only accelerate.” Although sources like wind, solar, and geothermal energy are crucial, they come with limitations related to geography and weather.
Exploring the Final Frontier for Energy Solutions
This situation raises the question of what comes next. For visionaries like Okhotnikov and a growing number of experts, the answer lies beyond Earth. “Terrestrial resources are not limitless,” he notes. “Very soon, we will have to look to space—because the future, without question, belongs there.” This perspective introduces the concept of Space-Based Solar Power (SBSP).
Imagine solar arrays positioned in geostationary orbit, exposed to unfiltered sunlight 24 hours a day. These arrays could convert solar energy and transmit it wirelessly to receiving stations on Earth via safe, low-intensity microwaves or lasers. This would provide a stable, carbon-free power source accessible globally. Notably, organizations like the European Space Agency and NASA are conducting feasibility studies to explore this concept further.
A report from 2025 for the European energy grid suggested that such systems could bolster the grid by providing a consistent energy source that intermittent renewables cannot. “The solar power we can collect here on Earth is only a tiny fraction of what is available in space,” Okhotnikov adds, emphasizing the vast potential that exists beyond our planet. “In my view, this is where an enormous potential lies for new developments—and this is exactly what we are working on at Holiverse.”
Overcoming Challenges to Revolutionize Energy Production
While the path to implementing solar electricity in space is fraught with challenges—including international governance, orbital construction, and transmission efficiency—advancements in materials science and reusable rockets are paving the way for solutions. Okhotnikov asserts that these obstacles are increasingly viewed as manageable engineering and diplomatic issues.
“Holiverse positions itself as a strategic pioneer in this transition,” he explains. “We are developing technologies capable of powering the next era of AI. It’s a demanding process that brings together some of the brightest minds in this field, and I believe that in the foreseeable future we will be ready to take tangible steps toward making this project a reality.”
The potential implications of this shift are profound. By freeing AI from the constraints of terrestrial energy sources, researchers could significantly expand their capabilities. A ubiquitous, sustainable energy network could support extensive computational workloads essential for fields such as material science, personalized medicine, and climate prediction.
The energy allocated to AI could redefine its development, ensuring that future advancements are not limited by power availability. From Holiverse to other pioneers in government and industry, there is a growing recognition that to genuinely advance intelligence, humanity must look beyond Earth. Utilizing the sun’s limitless power could be the key to unlocking the next major evolution in artificial intelligence.
