Botiller, born Bernard Ordway Botiller on January 5, 1930, in Los Angeles, spent most of his life in the area, with the exception of a brief time in Iowa during his childhood and his service in the Navy at the age of 19. His journey through life included extensive travel across four continents, yet his roots remained firmly planted in Los Angeles County.

A Life of Love and Family

Barney is survived by his two children, Ursula and Ted Botiller, five grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. He shared a deep bond with his wife, Ursula “Rusty” Botiller, whom he met at the age of 17 in a dance club. They married at 20 and enjoyed a loving partnership that lasted for 56 years, during which they created countless memories together.

Known for his respectfulness and kindness, Botiller often expressed gratitude for the strong women in his life, including his mother and his beloved companion, Lotte Lagraff. His life was marked by a commitment to serving others, both as a military man and as a devoted father and neighbor. He lived without significant regrets, reflecting on a life full of satisfaction and joy.

A Community Figure

Barney was a dedicated member of the American Martyrs Catholic Church in Manhattan Beach, where he served as a lector since 1955. His faith and community involvement were central to his life, further enriching the lives of those around him.

A mass in his honor is scheduled for 1 PM on March 20, 2026, at American Martyrs Catholic Church, followed by a reception to celebrate his life. Friends, family, and community members are encouraged to gather and remember a man who embodied love, respect, and dedication to family.
