Born in Grinnell, Iowa, Forehand relocated to Southern California in 1941. Initially, he worked as an aircraft ordnance technician at Lockheed Aircraft, focusing on the P-38 fighter planes. His commitment to serving his country led him to enlist in the U.S. Navy in August 1942, where he played a significant role in the Pacific theater during World War II.

Military Service and Community Involvement

During the war, Forehand served as a Beach Master on Saipan in 1945, overseeing critical operations that contributed to the success of the Allied forces. After returning to California, he continued his career at TRW and later at CALTRANS, ultimately retiring after many years of dedicated service.

Forehand became an active member of the community, joining the Gardena Masonic Lodge in 1960, where he eventually achieved the title of Master. His commitment to veteran affairs was evident through his long-standing involvement with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). He served on the Honor Guard at Post 1622 in Lomita for over 20 years, honoring fellow veterans and participating in numerous memorial events.

In addition to his military and community service, Forehand was a staunch supporter of the USS Iowa and participated regularly in the Torrance Armed Forces Day Parade, demonstrating his pride in his service and his country.
