Savannah Guthrie and Terry Gannon to Co-Host 2026 Olympics Ceremony

The co-hosts for the opening ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan Cortina have been officially announced. Savannah Guthrie and Terry Gannon will guide viewers through the event, set to take place on February 6, 2026. The ceremony will be broadcast live on NBC and streamed on Peacock.
Savannah Guthrie, co-anchor of TODAY, is no stranger to the Olympics. This will mark her fourth time hosting an opening ceremony, having previously done so for the Tokyo and Beijing Games, as well as the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. She will also continue her role as co-anchor of TODAY during the Milan Cortina Olympics, a practice she has maintained since the London Olympics in 2012.
Terry Gannon will take on the role of co-host for the first time, having previously hosted the closing ceremonies for the past four Olympic Games. Joining them in the broadcast booth will be Shaun White, a three-time snowboarding gold medalist. White, a veteran of five Olympic Games, will provide commentary as athletes participate in the Parade of Nations at the historic San Siro Stadium in Milan.
The San Siro Stadium, which opened in 1926, serves as the home for professional soccer teams AC Milan and Inter Milan. White expressed his excitement about returning to the Olympics in this new capacity. “The Olympics have been such a huge part of my life, and to return in this new role — celebrating the athletes, the energy, and the incredible backdrop of Italy — is truly an honor,” he stated in a news release.
Savannah Guthrie echoed this sentiment, stating, “I couldn’t be more thrilled to host the Opening Ceremony alongside the incomparable Terry Gannon and snowboarding legend Shaun White. It’s such an honor to celebrate the world’s best athletes and introduce the magic and wonder of the Winter Games and northern Italy to viewers at home.”
The 2026 Winter Olympics will be significant, marking the first Winter Games in Western Europe since the 2006 Torino Olympics. NBC Sports commentator Mike Tirico will also contribute to the opening ceremony coverage. Just two days later, he will transition to calling the play-by-play for Super Bowl 60 on NBC and Peacock.
Live coverage of the opening ceremony will begin at 12 p.m. ET on February 6, 2026, with prime-time coverage starting at 8 p.m. ET on both NBC and Peacock. The event will be produced by Lindsay Schanzer and directed by Mike Sheehan, both of whom are recipients of Sports Emmy Awards.
As anticipation builds for the Winter Games, the announcement of the co-hosts sets a vibrant tone for what promises to be a remarkable celebration of athleticism and culture in Italy.
