Remembering Anna Grace Campbell: A Life of Service and Dedication
Anna Grace Campbell, affectionately known as Ciccie, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2026, at the age of 91 in Lady Lake, Florida. A woman of remarkable intellect and unwavering strength, she dedicated her life to public service and community enrichment, leaving behind a legacy of leadership, loyalty, and devotion.
Born on October 8, 1934, to John Eskdale Campbell, a Scottish native, and Anna Reichelt Campbell, Ciccie grew up in Newark, New Jersey, alongside her brother, John Reichelt Campbell. The siblings shared a lifelong bond, one that became even more significant after the passing of their father when Ciccie was just twelve years old. Her formative years were shaped largely by her aunt, Elizabeth Campbell Meredith, affectionately known as “Auntie Liz,” whose guidance instilled in Ciccie a robust sense of respect and self-discipline.
Ciccie’s sense of independence and intellect became apparent early on. In the 1950s, she broke societal norms by pursuing a career in aviation, flying for the Flying Tiger Line after completing training at the Grace Downs Airlines School in New York City. This bold step reflected her adventurous spirit and willingness to challenge conventions. Her career later took her to Korea and Vietnam, where she served with distinction as a civilian Area Director for the United States Department of the Army’s Special Services from November 1966 to June 1971. Her commitment to service earned her numerous accolades, including the Civilian Medal for Service in Vietnam.
While in Vietnam, Ciccie documented her experiences through weekly audio tapes sent to a dear friend she called “Duchess,” showcasing her ability to maintain connections despite physical distances. Each tape began with the familiar words, “Hi Duchess. Today is…,” reflecting her loyalty and thoughtfulness.
Ciccie’s academic achievements were equally impressive. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Seton Hall University in 1965 and later earned a Master of Arts in Public Administration and Supervision from Montclair State University in 1987, graduating summa cum laude with a perfect 4.0 GPA. Her professional journey included significant roles within the Essex County Department of Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs, where she was recognized as a visionary leader and skilled problem-solver.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Ciccie’s personal life reflected her deep compassion. She devoted herself to caring for her mother, Anna Reichelt Campbell, enriching their time together with outings and unwavering support. This commitment exemplified her loyalty and quiet devotion, qualities that defined her relationships with family and friends alike.
Ciccie also maintained enduring friendships from her high school years, sustaining connections marked by mutual respect and unwavering loyalty. As time passed, these relationships provided her with joy and companionship.
In the late 1990s, Ciccie relocated to The Villages in Florida, where she embraced a new chapter of life with enthusiasm. She quickly integrated into her community, forming strong bonds with her neighbors and participating actively in local initiatives, including the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). Among her friends, she was fondly known as a member of the “Gutter Gang,” a testament to the camaraderie she fostered.
Despite not having children of her own, Ciccie cherished her extended family, including her beloved nieces and nephews. She took pride in their accomplishments, celebrating their milestones with keen interest and enduring love.
Ciccie Anna Grace Campbell lived a life defined by strength of character, clarity of purpose, and a quiet faith in Jesus Christ. Her legacy of service, leadership, and devotion will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
