Paula Cundiff, Beloved Texas Community Member, Passes Away at 79
Paula Gene Young Cundiff, a cherished member of the community in Denton, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2025, in Lehi, Utah. She was 79 years old. Ms. Cundiff was born on August 15, 1946, as the only child of Nancy G. McSpadden Young and Paul Eugene Young, Jr. Her life was marked by deep connections to family, community, and a love for animals.
Raised in Denton, Ms. Cundiff graduated from Denton High School and later attended the University of North Texas. Throughout her life, she lived in various Texas cities, including Plano, Sanger, Granbury, and Nacogdoches. In 2017, she relocated to San Francisco, California, with her family, and later moved to Lehi, Utah, in 2021.
After a rewarding career, Ms. Cundiff retired in 2005. She dedicated 16 years as the Administrative Assistant to the Accounting Department at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches. Her commitment to community extended beyond her professional life; she was a long-time member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Nacogdoches.
Animals held a special place in Ms. Cundiff’s heart. She was known for her kindness toward cats, dogs, ferrets, and even generations of raccoons that frequented her back porch during harsh winters. Her home was a sanctuary for many creatures who relied on her generosity.
In her personal life, she was married to her junior high sweetheart, John E. Cundiff, from 1965 until their divorce in 1983. Together, they welcomed two children, Cami Shey and Chad Alexander. Tragically, Ms. Cundiff faced the profound loss of her son, Chad Alexander Cundiff, who passed away at the age of 12 in 1991.
She is survived by her daughter, Cami, son-in-law Ben, and grandchildren Sienna, Anastasia, Noah, and William. Additionally, she is remembered by her cousin, Corry McSpadden, of Meeker, Oklahoma.
As Ms. Cundiff departs this life, she leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of compassion and love for both her family and the countless animals she nurtured. Those wishing to express their condolences may do so online at www.mulkeybowlesmontgomery.com.
