Medina Recreation Center Enhances Facilities with Generous Donation
The Medina Community Recreation Center has received a significant enhancement to its facilities thanks to a generous donation from Foundations Worldwide Inc., a local supplier of children’s products. In October 2023, Parks and Recreation Director Jansen Wehrley announced that the company would provide a universal changing station and additional baby changing tables at no cost.
The universal changing station, valued at $10,500, is designed to accommodate individuals of all ages and sizes, with a weight capacity of up to 500 pounds. It will be installed in one of the recreation center’s family changing rooms. Wehrley highlighted the importance of this upgrade, stating, “Council just last month accepted the approval for the adult changing station and we had just completed our locker room renovations.”
Upon reviewing the existing baby changing stations at the facility, it became apparent that they were outdated. Wehrley reached out to Foundations Worldwide for a quote on new baby changing tables, which led to the surprise donation. “Foundations just shipped them to us for no cost,” he added, expressing gratitude for the support from the local business.
In collaboration with the Medina County Board of Developmental Disabilities, customized instructional signage will be installed near the new changing station to assist users. The maintenance staff at the school will also lend their support for the installation process.
This initiative is part of a broader effort by the city to enhance accessibility and safety within community facilities. As Halloween approaches, the city is urging parents to take safety precautions when selecting costumes for their children. Recommendations include choosing fire-resistant materials for costumes, wigs, and accessories, as well as ensuring that children wear reflective tape or carry glow sticks when out after dark. The city also advises parents to use non-toxic makeup instead of masks that can obstruct visibility.
The donation from Foundations Worldwide Inc. not only improves the amenities at the Medina Community Recreation Center but also reflects the strong community partnerships that foster a safer and more inclusive environment for families.
