Jakarta Authorities Identify 185 Illegal Padel Courts Amid Complaints
The Jakarta provincial government has revealed that out of a total of 397 padel courts in the capital, 185 are operating without proper permits. The announcement was made by Vera Revina Sari, the head of the city’s spatial planning agency, during a press conference on February 25, 2026.
This surge in padel court installations has raised concerns among residents, leading to complaints about noise and disturbances caused by late-night activities. In response to these issues, Governor Pramono Anung has ordered a comprehensive review of all padel courts in Jakarta to verify their compliance with local regulations. He stated, “We are currently investigating how many of the 397 courts possess the necessary permits. We will enforce regulations as we have communicated.”
The popularity of padel, a racquet sport that has gained traction in recent years, has prompted a rapid increase in the number of courts across urban areas. However, the lack of oversight and compliance with building regulations has become a significant concern for local authorities.
In light of the complaints from residents, Jakarta’s government is prioritizing the regulation of these facilities. The authorities plan to address the situation by inspecting all existing padel courts and ensuring they adhere to established guidelines. This initiative aims to balance the sport’s popularity with the need for community peace.
Governor Anung’s commitment to enforcing regulations is a response to the growing trend of recreational spaces that, while beneficial for physical activity, must also respect the rights of local residents. The outcome of this investigation will likely shape the future of padel courts in Jakarta, as the government seeks to find a solution that satisfies both sports enthusiasts and community members.
As this situation unfolds, the Jakarta government remains focused on ensuring compliance and maintaining harmony within the city. The results of the inspections and any subsequent actions taken will be closely monitored by both residents and sports enthusiasts alike.
