Literary Events Highlight Local Poets

On Sunday, March 1, at 14:00, the library will feature “Verse Sprung from Myth and Legend,” a poetry reading by acclaimed poets Kathleen Driskell, Christopher McCurry, Jeremy Paden, and Katerina Stoykova. Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase books and have them signed following the reading. Interested individuals can register for this event at www.pspl.org.

The following day, Monday, March 2, includes two notable events. At 16:30, children in grades K-2 can participate in a craft session to create colorful confetti bookmarks. Later, at 18:30, the Frankfort Civil War Round Table will present “Traces: Slavery at Ashland,” led by Eric Brooks, Chief Curator of the Henry Clay Estate. Brooks will discuss how Ashland has worked to uncover and present the history of slavery within its exhibits and programs. Registration for this event is also available at www.pspl.org.

Creative Workshops and Discussions

On Tuesday, March 3, from 14:00 to 16:00, the library invites adults seeking employment assistance to meet with a representative from the Kentucky Career Center. This free service provides guidance on job searches, resume preparation, and interview techniques.

Later in the day, at 16:30, a craft workshop for tweens and teens will feature sand art painting, allowing participants from grades 3-12 to explore their artistic side using vibrant colored sand. At 18:00, David Dominé, author of “A Dark Room in Glitter Ball City,” will speak about his true crime book, which inspired an HBO docuseries. A book signing will follow the discussion, with copies available for purchase from Poor Richard’s Books. Registration is required and can be completed at www.pspl.org.

On Wednesday, March 4, from 12:00 to 13:00, adults can join the Adult Arts & Crafts Club, where they can work on personal projects or participate in a guided activity. Later in the afternoon, at 16:30, children in grades 3-12 are encouraged to attend the “Crow Party,” where they will create crow masks and shiny trinket boxes. The day concludes with a beginner yoga class at 18:00, led by certified instructors Grace Rogers and Jo Rodriguez. Participants are advised to wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat if available.

Thursday, March 5, features Board Game Day at 16:30, where attendees can enjoy games from the library’s collection, including the spotlight game, Machi Koro.

The library will be closed for maintenance on Friday, March 6, but will resume activities on Saturday, March 7. At 13:00, the library will host “Give to Gain,” a celebration for Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day. Attendees can look forward to speakers and refreshments as the event promotes women’s equality in education and empowerment. This event is sponsored by the Kentucky Women’s History Alliance and the library.

At 13:30 on Saturday, tweens and teens can participate in a paint-by-numbers activity, choosing between a dragon or a flower mosaic. No registration is necessary for this event unless otherwise noted.
