FSU Instructor Craig Sheil Honored as MassCUE Pathfinder Awardee
Craig Sheil, an adjunct instructor at Fitchburg State University, has been awarded the prestigious MassCUE Pathfinder Award at the 2025 MassCUE conference held at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts. This recognition is granted to educators who have significantly enhanced the field of educational technology through leadership and innovation.
A Journey of Dedication to Education
Upon receiving the award, Sheil expressed his gratitude, stating, “It is such an honor to be recognized for this award. I am certainly proud of the work that I have done along my educational journey.” The Pathfinder Award highlights individuals who have gone “above and beyond” in inspiring their peers and advancing educational practices.
Sheil shares the accolade with Dr. Rayna Freedman, a fifth-grade teacher at Jordan Jackson School in Mansfield. With over 23 years in public education, Sheil began his career as a high school mathematics teacher before transitioning to his current role as a digital learning specialist at Bedford High School in New Hampshire. In this position, he focuses on helping educators effectively integrate technology into their teaching.
Embracing Technology in Education
Reflecting on his career, Sheil noted, “It certainly is not a dull moment as we continue to navigate this world of AI and what that might look like in the educational setting.” His commitment to leveraging technology in the classroom has become increasingly relevant as educational environments evolve.
Sheil completed his master’s degree at Fitchburg State University in 2012. He emphasizes the reciprocal learning derived from his dual roles: applying insights gained as a digital learning specialist to his classes at Fitchburg State and vice versa. This approach fosters a dynamic educational experience for his students.
The Massachusetts Computer Using Educators (MassCUE) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting educators who are passionate about digital teaching and learning. By recognizing leaders like Sheil, MassCUE aims to inspire others in the field to enhance their practices through technology.
Sheil’s recognition as a Pathfinder Awardee not only highlights his individual achievements but also underscores the importance of embracing technological advancements in education. As educators like Sheil lead the way, the future of teaching and learning continues to evolve in exciting and transformative ways.
