Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry Celebrate “Cookie Queens” at Sundance
Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry made a surprise appearance at the Sundance Film Festival, celebrating the world premiere of their documentary, Cookie Queens. The film, executive-produced by the couple through Archewell Productions, showcases the experiences of young Girl Scouts during the competitive cookie-selling season. Directed by Alysa Nahmias, the documentary offers an intimate look at the challenges and triumphs faced by the girls and their families in the pursuit of their goals.
The project was announced last month, with Meghan expressing her personal connection to the subject matter. “As a former Girl Scout myself, with my mom as my troop leader, I have a personal affinity for this film,” she stated. She emphasized her pride in the collaboration that led to the film’s production, noting that early footage captivated both her and Harry.
Documentary Highlights Girl Scouts’ Journey
“The sparkling film follows the girls through a cookie-selling season, highlighting the girls’ charm and unsuspecting sharp business instincts,”
said Stephanie Owens, a Sundance programmer. The documentary not only captures the joy of cookie sales but also addresses the real sacrifices families make to achieve their goals. Families often trade leisurely weekends for hours spent selling cookies, pushing wagons filled with their products.
Owens described Cookie Queens as a “joyous, heartwarming, utterly sweet ride” that celebrates the determination and ingenuity of the girls involved. The film is positioned to resonate with audiences, showcasing the entrepreneurial spirit of young Girl Scouts while providing a glimpse into a multimillion-dollar industry.
During the special screening, Meghan opted for a chic all-black outfit, pairing a high-neck sweater with boot-cut jeans. To combat the chilly weather in Utah, she layered with a sleek deep-brown wool-cashmere coat. Harry complemented her look with casual attire, including a puffer jacket and army-green jeans. Their presence at the festival, alongside director Nahmias and Amy Redford, daughter of Sundance founder Robert Redford, added a touch of glamour to the event.
As the documentary continues to garner attention, it reflects a broader trend of engaging storytelling that connects viewers to important social themes. With its focus on the resilience and business acumen of young girls, Cookie Queens is poised to make a significant impact, both at the festival and beyond.
