Community Mourns the Loss of Louis Dale Hamrick, 91, Veteran and Entrepreneur

Louis Dale Hamrick, a respected veteran and successful entrepreneur, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025, in his hometown of Morgantown, West Virginia. He was 91 years old. Remembered for his wisdom, kindness, and dedication, Louis leaves behind a profound legacy through his family and community contributions.
Born on March 3, 1934, Louis lived a life defined by service and commitment. He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Barbara Jean Shaffer Hamrick. Together, they raised three sons: Mark Allen Hamrick of Morgantown, Brian David Hamrick of Florence, Kentucky, and Todd Robert Hamrick of Morgantown. His family also includes cherished grandchildren: Scott Hamrick, Caroline Utzman (Nathan), Aaron Hamrick, Eli Hamrick, and Isaac Hamrick.
Louis’s early life included a commitment to education, graduating from University High School in 1954. He then dedicated over three decades to the United States Army Special Forces, achieving the rank of Sergeant Major and Jumpmaster as a proud Green Beret. His military service was a testament to his determination and love for his country.
Following his military career, Louis transitioned to entrepreneurship, founding multiple businesses, including Northco, Quality Bit, and Tech Engineering. Over the course of more than six decades, his ventures generated employment for hundreds, demonstrating his commitment to fostering growth within the Morgantown community.
In addition to his professional achievements, Louis was a skilled instrument-rated pilot and an enthusiastic runner and skier. He was known as the family rock, always willing to support those in need, even stepping in to raise some family members. His spirit of generosity was evident in the annual event he established in 1968, known as “The Float Trip,” which continues to bring family and friends together each year.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Louis’s memory to the Scott’s Run Settlement House, located at 950 Fairchance Rd., Morgantown, WV 26508. Contributions can also be directed to 41 Ladybug Dr., Morgantown, WV 26501 or through their website at www.srsh.org.
Family and friends are invited to gather at McCulla Funeral Home, located at 770 Fairmont Road, Westover, WV, on August 3, 2025, from 1 to 3 p.m. A visitation will continue the following day from 10 to 11 a.m., leading to the funeral service at that time on August 4. Louis will be laid to rest at Mt. Union Cemetery following the service. Online condolences may be extended to the family at www.mcculla.com.
