Douglas James Hamilton, affectionately known as Doug, passed away on January 5, 2026, due to complications from a stroke at Manatee Memorial Hospital. He was 59 years old. Born on November 23, 1966, in Battle Creek, Michigan, Doug’s early years were marked by a commitment to both academics and athletics, having graduated from Springfield High School in 1984.

During his time at Springfield High School, Doug established himself as a dedicated multi-sport athlete, excelling in football, baseball, and basketball. These formative experiences fostered a strong sense of determination and teamwork that stayed with him throughout his life. Following his education, Doug married briefly to Tracy Robbins before relocating to Florida, where he embraced a lifestyle defined by hard work and the joy of simple pleasures.

Doug found fulfillment in construction and maintenance, where he developed a reputation as a reliable hands-on problem solver. Colleagues and friends often remarked on his ability to fix nearly anything that came his way. His generous spirit and readiness to assist others made him a cherished member of his community.

In Florida, Doug enjoyed a vibrant life filled with activities he loved. His passions included playing golf, participating in softball leagues, fishing, and relaxing on the state’s beautiful beaches. Doug is survived by his father, Clifford Hamilton; his sister, Krista (Jim) Campbell; and his life partner, Jolyn Caplan. He also leaves behind nieces Alyssa and Abi Campbell, along with many extended family members, including Uncle Mike (Patty) Newton and cousins such as Linda Williams and Michelle (Mark) Slayton. The family mourns the loss of Doug’s beloved mother, Sheri (Newton) Hamilton, and his cherished son, Cody James Hamilton, who preceded him in death.

Doug’s presence in the lives of those who knew him was marked by his generous heart and unwavering work ethic.
