Thomas ‘Tommy’ Novak, a talented chef from Cleveland, passed away on December 19, 2025, at the age of 50. His journey was marked by both remarkable accomplishments and profound struggles, particularly with alcoholism, a disease that ultimately impacted his life and relationships.

Born on August 12, 1975, Tommy entered the lives of his family in July 1978 when he was just three years old. He quickly became known as a bright and cheerful boy. Excelling academically, he pursued his passion for cooking at the Lorain County Joint Vocational School (JVS). His dedication led him to work at some of the finest restaurants in Cleveland, where he developed a reputation as a gifted chef.

Despite his professional achievements, Tommy’s life took a difficult turn as he battled alcohol addiction. This struggle overshadowed his potential and aspirations, creating a conflict between his talents and personal demons. His family noted that when Tommy was sober, he exhibited the qualities of a loving son and a diligent employee.

Tommy’s father, Thomas Andrew Novak, and mother, Elaine Marie Novak, expressed their heartbreak over the impact of alcoholism on their son’s life. “Alcoholism is an insidious disease,” they remarked, emphasizing the profound loss they experienced as a result of his addiction. They cherished the memories of their son’s vibrant spirit and his culinary skills, which were overshadowed by his ongoing struggles.

Tommy is survived by his parents, his brother, Daniel E. Flave-Novak, and his sister, Gabriella F. Novak. He also leaves behind his aunt, Adrienne Flave. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Frances C. Flave.

A memorial service to honor Tommy’s life will be held on February 21, 2026, at 11:00 AM at The Lake House, located at 32756 Lake Road, Avon Lake, Ohio 44012. Friends and family are invited to attend and celebrate his legacy.

In remembrance of Tommy, individuals wishing to pay tribute can choose to send flowers or plant a living memorial in his honor. Further details are available at www.buschcares.com or by calling 440-933-3202.

As the community reflects on Tommy Novak’s life, it is a poignant reminder of the complexities of addiction and the enduring love of family and friends.
