LDWF Launches Beginner Squirrel Hunt Workshop in Louisiana

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) has announced a beginner squirrel hunting workshop aimed at novice hunters. Scheduled for November 7 and 8, 2023, the workshop will take place at the Dewey Wills Wildlife Management Area in Louisiana. This event provides an opportunity for participants to learn the fundamentals of small game hunting, including the use of shotguns and ethical hunting practices.

According to the LDWF, this inaugural workshop will accommodate a maximum of eight participants aged 18 and older. Registration for the event will close on October 20, 2023, and applicants must have a hunter education certification unless exempt. Those selected for the workshop will be notified by email and phone by October 24, 2023.

Participants will not only engage in theoretical discussions but also gain practical experience, with accommodations for a night’s stay included at the wildlife management area. The workshop aims to cultivate respect for the environment and equip each participant with essential skills for safe and ethical hunting.

To participate, attendees must possess a Basic Hunting License and a WMA Access Permit or an equivalent permit. The LDWF emphasizes the importance of safety gear, including a hunter orange cap, and requires participants to bring either a shotgun or a .22 LR rifle. The department can provide a firearm if needed.
