John E. Anderson Sr., a beloved figure in his community, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025, at Methodist Southlake Hospital in Indiana. Born on May 7, 1949, in Montgomery, Alabama, he was the son of the late Joseph Edward and Johnnie Lee Anderson.

John grew up in a close-knit family and attended the Hammond School System, culminating his education with a graduation from Hammond Technical Vocational High School in 1967. He dedicated many years of his life to working at Inland Steel, contributing to the industry and supporting his family.

A Family Man and Community Member

Throughout his life, John was known for his commitment to family and community. He is survived by his four children: Brenda Marie, John II (Leticia), Alisa Evette, and Mia Lynn. He also leaves behind a legacy of nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, each of whom he cherished deeply.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Glenniece Anderson, as well as his parents and siblings, Erma and Mary. His siblings Josie and Fannie, along with special nieces Katie and Sharron, who cared for him in his later years, remember him fondly. Many relatives and friends will miss his warmth and kindness.

Memorial Service Details

A memorial service to honor John E. Anderson Sr. will take place on January 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Church, located at 3125 West 45th Avenue, Gary, Indiana. This service will provide a space for family and friends to gather, share memories, and celebrate his life.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages those wishing to honor John’s memory to consider planting a living memorial. Such gestures will reflect his legacy of love and connection to nature.
