ENMU-R Celebrates Constitution Day with Special Guest Speaker

Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell (ENMU-R) will commemorate Constitution Day on September 17, 2023, with a special event featuring guest speaker Hunter Spindle, the chief deputy district attorney for the Fifth Judicial District. The celebration is scheduled to take place from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the university’s Performing Arts Center.

Spindle will discuss the historical significance of the U.S. Constitution and its relevance in daily life. Constitution Day is observed annually, recognizing the adoption of the Constitution and honoring individuals who have become U.S. citizens. The day marks the anniversary of the signing of the document by delegates at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia in 1787.

The importance of this observance is emphasized by Martha Staab, ENMU-R’s Director of Marketing and Public Relations, who stated, “Constitution Day is celebrated on campus every year, and it’s important that we celebrate this important day in our nation’s history.”

Constitution Day was officially designated by the United States Congress on February 29, 1952, and is part of what is known as Constitution Week, which continues until September 23. The event will also offer attendees snacks and light refreshments, fostering a community atmosphere as participants reflect on this vital aspect of American history.

As the event draws near, ENMU-R encourages students and community members to participate in the celebration of this fundamental document that shapes the nation’s laws and principles.
