Ellinwood High School Celebrates Seniors Regan Widener and Drake Hosman
As the academic year progresses, Ellinwood High School shines a spotlight on its graduating seniors, recognizing their achievements and future ambitions. In this edition of the Check It Out column, the focus is on two remarkable students: Regan Widener and Drake Hosman.
Regan Widener: Aiming for a Career in Physical Therapy
Regan Widener is a dedicated student whose family includes Michael, Allison, Brynn, and Anelle Widener. She cites the Bible as her favorite book, highlighting its teachings as essential for leading a fulfilling life. Regan’s favorite quote, “Just ridin’ the wave,” reflects her positive outlook.
Throughout her time at Ellinwood High, Regan has been an active participant in various sports and extracurricular activities. She has played volleyball for four years, participated in basketball for three years, and also engaged in track and field, softball, and the National Honor Society. Additionally, she has been involved with Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), and the Mystics.
Among her academic pursuits, Regan particularly enjoys her work study class, where she shadows the physical therapy department at a local hospital. This experience aligns with her aspirations, as she plans to continue her volleyball career at Fort Hays State University while obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Health and Human Performance. Regan hopes to advance her education in graduate school to become a physical therapist.
Drake Hosman: Culinary Arts Enthusiast
Fellow senior Drake Hosman is also achieving significant milestones. He is supported by his family, including Jennifer, Drew, Cooper, and Gage Hosman. Like Regan, Drake recommends the Bible as a transformative read, and his favorite quote is a poignant reminder: “Don’t let the worries of tomorrow steal the joys of today,” from Matthew 6:34.
Drake encourages incoming students to embrace happiness and not dwell on worries. His passion for cooking shines through in his favorite class, culinary arts, where he enjoys both the process and the delicious results. He humorously notes that he learned from his peers how to take more than one chocolate milk from the lunch line—a testament to the camaraderie among students.
As both Regan and Drake approach graduation, their contributions to Ellinwood High School and their plans for the future stand out. The community eagerly anticipates their next steps, wishing them both a rewarding final year of high school.
