Residents of Yolo County are invited to participate in a free interactive class focused on the fundamentals of fruit tree care. The event, led by UC Master Gardener Bonnie Berman, will take place on January 31, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the Health and Human Services Agency’s (HHSA) Bauer Building in Woodland.

The class aims to educate attendees on essential topics such as fruit tree pruning, identifying common pests, and effective control methods. Additionally, participants will receive valuable tips on extending the lifespan of their fruit trees. Winter is considered the optimal time for fruit tree maintenance, as it supports healthy growth and productivity.

This educational opportunity is open to all community members and aligns with the HHSA’s mission to promote healthy eating and active lifestyles. Pre-registration is required by January 30. Interested individuals can register by contacting Nick Gazda at [email protected] or by calling (530) 666-8429.

Event Details and Venue Information

The Bauer Building is located at 137 N. Cottonwood Street, conveniently situated next to the HHSA Hanna and Herber Bauer Memorial Community Garden. In light of potential weather conditions, the class will be held indoors in the Walker and Thompson conference rooms.

Following the class, attendees can join a free, informal garden and orchard tour, which will include a Q&A session, contingent on weather conditions. The HHSA offers various community garden classes throughout the year, all at no charge. For more information on upcoming activities and classes, residents can visit www.YoloCounty.gov/garden.

This initiative not only fosters community engagement but also encourages sustainable practices among local residents, enhancing their connection to gardening and healthy food production.
