Troy University has announced the introduction of a new LPN-to-RN Bridge Program set to commence in the Fall of 2026. This initiative, part of its Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) program, aims to provide a pathway for licensed practical nurses (LPNs) to advance their education and address the increasing demand for registered nurses (RNs) in Alabama.

The program was developed through a collaboration between Troy University and Baptist Health, reflecting a commitment to enhancing the regional healthcare workforce. Montgomery County Commissioner Doug Singleton praised the initiative, stating, “This program is such a wonderful addition to our community, and I commend Troy University and Baptist Health for making this happen.”

Students enrolling in the LPN-to-RN Bridge Program will receive targeted instruction and clinical education that builds on their existing knowledge and experience. Graduates will earn the ASN degree from Troy University and will be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) upon meeting the necessary criteria.

Dr. LaGary Carter, Dean of the College of Health Sciences at Troy University, emphasized the significance of this collaboration. “This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to supporting nurses and investing in the future of healthcare in Alabama,” he noted. The program is designed to increase access to nursing education and strengthen the workforce pipeline, thus creating new opportunities for LPNs seeking career advancement.

As part of the program, Baptist Health will provide funding for instructional support and will offer dedicated facilities for clinical training and simulation experiences. Additionally, employees of Baptist Health will have the opportunity to apply for a Baptist-sponsored scholarship to aid in their participation in the program.

Applications for the inaugural cohort of the LPN-to-RN Bridge Program are currently open, with a submission deadline of May 31, 2026. Accepted students will receive official acceptance letters that will include further details about the program and information regarding a mandatory orientation session. Classes for the first cohort are scheduled to begin in August 2026. For those interested in applying for the following year’s cohort, the deadline is October 30, 2027.

This new program represents a significant step towards bolstering the healthcare workforce in Alabama while providing valuable advancement opportunities for LPNs.
