Mid-Plains Community College and UNK Forge Music Degree Pathway
Mid-Plains Community College (MPCC) has established a significant partnership with the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK) by signing a 2+2 transfer agreement. This initiative aims to create a structured educational pathway for music students, facilitating their transition to a four-year degree program at UNK.
The agreement, announced in North Platte, Nebraska, is designed to provide students with a clear and organized route from MPCC to UNK, enabling them to pursue their music studies with confidence. Kristin Simpson, the Lead Music Instructor at MPCC, emphasized the importance of starting at the community college level. She stated, “I always encourage them to come here because we have what they need. There is no just in front of community college, there’s no just in front of this department. It is not just anything. It is exactly what they need.”
The collaboration aims to ensure that students receive a high-quality education tailored to their aspirations. Simpson added, “We provide the highest level of education that we possibly can for these students. Because again, we want them to be able to come here and transfer to a university.”
Two-Year Effort Culminates in Partnership
The formation of this agreement is the result of a dedicated two-year effort between MPCC and UNK. Dr. Jody Tomanek, Vice President of Academic Affairs at MPCC, highlighted the extensive work that went into creating this opportunity. “It was a lot of work. And this doesn’t just happen overnight. We love to see our students go on and do wonderful things, whether it is academically at a university or professionally, whether it’s performing or locally in the community,” Tomanek explained.
This partnership not only simplifies the transition for students but also allows them to plan their academic futures from the outset. Students will now have a clearer understanding of their educational journey, a crucial factor for those pursuing a career in music.
The 2+2 transfer agreement represents a significant step forward in aligning the educational objectives of both institutions, ensuring that students are well-prepared for success in their future endeavors. As the agreement takes effect, MPCC and UNK are optimistic about the opportunities it will create for aspiring music professionals.
The collaboration showcases the commitment of both institutions to fostering academic excellence and supporting students in achieving their educational goals.
