Celebrate Passover with Community Events at Sedona Synagogue
The Jewish Community of Sedona and the Verde Valley is preparing to host a series of engaging events in anticipation of Passover, beginning with an Erev Shabbat service on March 13, 2024. Located at 100 Meadowlark Drive, the congregation welcomes visitors to join in a vibrant celebration that connects the past to the future through religious and cultural experiences.
On the evening of the Erev Shabbat service, starting at 17:30, attendees will participate in songs and prayers, including healing prayers for loved ones and the Kaddish, a Mourner’s prayer. The service will focus on the Torah portions of Vayakhel and Pikudei, which describe the construction of Israel’s first House of Worship, the Mishkan, in the desert. After the service, community members can enjoy Kiddush and Motzi, traditional blessings over wine and challah, along with time for socializing.
A pre-Passover workshop will take place on March 15, 2024, at 15:00. Led by Rabbi Alicia Magal, this in-person event will provide insights into recipes, adaptations of the Haggadah for children, and the traditional Seder Plate. Participants are encouraged to bring their favorite Haggadah and can reserve their spot by emailing [email protected].
The congregation also offers a meditation class on March 18, 2024, led by Rosalie Malter and Rabbi Magal, focusing on sacred texts and holiday themes. Additionally, a Torah study group will convene on March 19, 2024, at 16:00, exploring the beginning of the Book of Leviticus, which discusses various sacrifices in the Tabernacle.
In a display of community support, the Social Action Committee is collecting non-perishable foods, infant formula, and feminine hygiene products for the local Sedona food pantry. Donations can be dropped off in a designated bin located at the parking lot entrance.
The JCSVV is excited to announce a performance by renowned Klezmer musicians Jake Shulman-Ment and Jordan Wax on March 28, 2024, at 19:00. More information and ticket details are available on the synagogue’s website.
Finally, the Community Passover Seder will be held on the first night of Passover, April 1, 2024. Reservations and additional details can be found on the JCSVV website.
The Jewish Community of Sedona and the Verde Valley, known for its welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, encourages all members and visitors to partake in these enriching activities. The congregation aims to create a sense of wholeness and peace, embodied in the word “Shalom.”
