Voice services remain integral to operator offerings and are increasingly shaping modern society. As of 2025, the number of users engaging with New Calling services in China surpassed 80 million, with a continuous upward trend. This expansion is supported by over 70 terminal models now equipped to utilize data channel (DC) capabilities.

In a significant development, China Mobile has launched an AI life assistant, which facilitates various services such as medical consultations and medication purchases through voice calls. This initiative exemplifies the concept of call-as-a-service, enhancing user convenience and accessibility.

Global Expansion of New Calling Services

The New Calling framework is not limited to China. Telecommunications operators in the Middle East and Southeast Asia, including Zain in Kuwait, stc in Saudi Arabia, and AIS in Thailand, are beginning to deploy advanced features like Visualized Voice Calling and simultaneous interpretation. These enhancements signify a broader opportunity for growth in the global telecommunications landscape.

The evolution of voice services is closely tied to advancements in communication networks. With the rollout of 5G-A and AI technologies, the user experience is becoming more immersive and interactive. Huawei’s AI Calling solution capitalizes on the dial pads of mobile devices and the extensive number resources of operators. By integrating AI capabilities, the call experience is significantly enriched, allowing operators to explore new service avenues.

To address the complexities of maintaining multiple generations of voice networks, Huawei has introduced the converged bare-metal Single Voice Core (SVC) solution. This innovative approach consolidates access for 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G, and fixed-line users into a unified network. As a result, operators can efficiently phase out outdated equipment while transitioning to a bare-metal architecture, ensuring a “one-time investment, long-term benefits” model.

Enhancing Call Quality with Innovative Features

The integration of noise cancellation technology within the fully-converged SVC network allows operators to deliver exceptionally clear calls. This advancement elevates high-definition calls to an immersive experience, enhancing quality for all users across various devices.

Innovations in voice services are also transforming the calling process. Intelligent call answering, real-time translation, and post-call summaries are just a few features that can significantly streamline communication. In DC-based interactive services, multi-modal general assistants are capable of managing complex tasks during calls, effectively connecting diverse industries with phone numbers and providing unified service access in the AI-driven era.

The upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026, scheduled to take place from March 2 to 5 in Barcelona, will serve as a platform for Huawei and its global industry partners to showcase advancements in AI-powered calling solutions. Their goal is to improve the quality of every connection and usher in a new era of call-as-a-service.
