OneMeta CEO Saul Leal Unveils AI’s Role in Cultural Translation
At CES 2026 in Las Vegas, Saul Leal, CEO of OneMeta, discussed the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in translating not just words but the underlying human intent behind them. In an interview with Faith Pinnow from LA Times Studios, Leal emphasized the importance of cultural nuances in communication, moving beyond conventional speech-to-text models.
Leal, who began his journey in Venezuela, shared insights from his extensive travels across multiple countries. He highlighted that while language serves as a structural framework, true communication lies in understanding the intent, thoughts, and emotions embedded within those words. “In reality, translation or interpretation is a tool; it’s the fundamentals,” he stated. “Where we as a company focus is on understanding what is beyond—what are the words, what are the intentions, what are the thoughts?”
OneMeta’s technological advancement aims to bridge the gap created by cultural differences. For example, idiomatic expressions like “it’s raining cats and dogs” can confuse literal AI. However, OneMeta’s system is engineered to grasp these cultural contexts. By analyzing phonetic sounds and grammatical structures in real-time, the AI can differentiate between a speaker from Lisbon and one from Brazil, adapting seamlessly to local dialects and idioms.
Innovative Connectivity in Communication
A key feature of OneMeta’s technology is its accessibility. Unlike traditional translation tools that necessitate complicated software, Leal’s innovation integrates directly with global telecommunications carriers. “There’s no app, no internet. We have connected our technology with pretty much every carrier in the world,” he explained. “I’ll dial a phone number… I’ll talk to you in Spanish, you hear me in English and vice versa.”
This capability is currently being tested in critical sectors, such as the United Nations, healthcare, and finance, where accuracy and compliance with regulations like HIPAA are essential. Leal’s vision is to create a world where language barriers do not hinder cooperation, especially in environments where effective communication is paramount.
In addressing the broader implications of his work, Leal noted that the “North Star” of his company is to dismantle the ego and barriers created by language gaps. He believes that by enabling simultaneous streaming interpretation, OneMeta fosters a level of human connection that builds trust and enhances productivity across international borders. “When we get to understanding, we can actually create more trust. And we can accelerate productivity,” he added.
Balancing AI and Data Security
Despite the promises of AI, Leal stressed that it is not a panacea. In an era where data security is a critical concern, OneMeta ensures that unique models are built for every transaction, safeguarding the privacy of conversations. “Artificial intelligence is only part of the equation. We have infrastructure, we have security,” he explained. “AI is really not the silver bullet for progress and innovation.”
As the interview concluded, the overarching message was clear: in what Leal termed the “Golden Age of Creativity” and technology, the most valuable outcome is not merely the development of smarter machines but a deeper understanding among individuals. By recognizing and translating the essence of human communication, OneMeta aims to pave the way for a more connected and empathetic world.
