Chrysler Unveils Grizzly Peak Mini-Camper Van at Overland Expo
Chrysler has ventured into the world of recreational vehicles with the introduction of the Grizzly Peak, a new concept mini-camper van. This debut took place at the Overland Expo Mountain West in Colorado, marking a notable shift for the automaker, which is not typically associated with RVs or overland camping.
The Grizzly Peak is designed to serve dual purposes: it is practical enough for everyday family use while also rugged enough for outdoor adventures. This concept vehicle is based on the Pacifica minivan, which Chrysler has positioned as an all-wheel-drive option tailored for off-road capabilities. It features enhancements such as 31-inch BFGoodrich KO2 all-terrain tires and 18-inch black Foreshadow wheels, providing additional traction for various terrains.
Chrysler’s recent push into this market follows a period of challenges for the brand, which currently offers only two models. The Pacifica, alongside the Voyager, represents the last remnants of Chrysler’s lineup. By contrast, its sibling brands, Jeep and Ram, have established themselves as key players in the overland and camping vehicle segments.
At the Overland Expo, Chrysler showcased the Grizzly Peak’s capabilities, which include a 2.75-inch lift in the front suspension and a 2.5-inch lift in the rear. These modifications allow the vehicle to navigate rough terrain effectively. The concept also features TYRI lights for off-road visibility and a roof platform equipped with a spare wheel and traction boards.
The design leans towards minimalism, reflecting a focus on practicality. Instead of incorporating a pop-up roof like other models, the Grizzly Peak replaces the third-row seats with floor panels, extending the cargo space. For overnight camping, sleeping bags can be placed in the rear, although the setup is primarily suited for two passengers. The vehicle is equipped with a 115V/450W outlet in the back, enabling users to power accessories directly from the Pacifica’s battery.
While Chrysler’s future in the RV market remains uncertain, the Grizzly Peak serves as a teaser for potential updates to the Pacifica and an upcoming crossover model. There are expectations that this concept may appear at future events such as SEMA 2025 and early 2026 Overland Expo shows.
Chrysler’s entry into the camper van segment, albeit tentative, underscores its ongoing efforts to redefine its brand identity in a competitive automotive landscape. As the company navigates its challenges, innovations like the Grizzly Peak highlight its commitment to versatility and adventure-oriented designs.
