Remembering Ken Stanford: A Life of Science, Music, and Laughter
Ken Stanford, a renowned Metallurgy Scientist and Industrial Journalist, passed away, leaving behind a legacy of knowledge, humor, and musical passion. Born and educated in England, Ken’s career took him around the globe, where he contributed significantly to the study of copper resource depletion at both Sheffield and Manchester Universities.
Ken’s personal life was equally vibrant. He met his wife, Lesley, while they were students at Grammar School, and they married in 1972. Together, they fostered a love for music, organizing trips to the New Orleans Jazz Festival for European fans throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Ken’s passion for music was complemented by his sharp sense of style as a Mod in 1960s England, known for his distinctive purple Vespa adorned with copper side panels.
A Life Full of Passion and Kindness
Ken was not only a dedicated professional but also a devoted family man. He is survived by his wife, Lesley, his children, Jamie and Katie, and his half-sister, Pip. His generosity and kindness touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him. Ken was described as gentle, loyal, honest, and always a good listener. His quick wit and humor brought joy to those around him, making him a cherished friend and confidant.
A lifelong supporter of West Bromwich Albion, Ken followed his local West Midlands football team through both triumphs and challenges. His unwavering loyalty to the team mirrored his commitment to his family and friends, showcasing a character that valued steadfastness and support.
Ken’s memorial celebration of life is scheduled for 3:00 PM on October 6, 2025, at Old St. Hilary Church, located at 201 Esperanza Street in Tiburon, California. The event is being organized with assistance from Monte’s Chapel of the Hills in San Anselmo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those wishing to honor Ken consider a gift to PD-Connect, P.O. Box 398, Corte Madera, CA 94976.
As Shakespeare poignantly wrote, “Now cracks a noble heart. Good night, sweet Prince, And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.” Ken Stanford’s contributions to both his profession and his community will be remembered fondly, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
