On December 16, 2025, NetraMark Holdings Inc., a leader in artificial intelligence (AI) for clinical trials, announced a significant collaboration with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in Toronto. This partnership has been awarded the prestigious Ontario Research Fund – Research Excellence (ORF-RE) Award, which highlights innovative research collaboration in Ontario.

Under this collaboration, NetraMark will utilize its advanced AI platform, NetraAI, within CAMH’s secure high-performance computing environment. This platform is designed to analyze genetic and epigenetic data from studies focused on schizophrenia and major depressive disorder. The aim is to identify patient subpopulations that clarify biological subtypes within these psychiatric disorders, ultimately enhancing next-generation precision treatment strategies.

Enhancing Mental Health Research

The deployment of NetraAI aims to support pharmaceutical sponsors in optimizing clinical trial outcomes. The software will be installed by CAMH’s Research IT team, with assistance from NetraMark, ensuring that all analyses are conducted using de-identified patient data. This approach adheres strictly to CAMH’s data privacy and network security protocols.

Dr. James Kennedy, Head of the Tanenbaum Centre for Pharmacogenetics at CAMH, emphasized the significance of this collaboration, stating, “This partnership integrates NetraMark’s unique AI approach with CAMH’s deep genomic and clinical datasets to explore how genetic and epigenetic patterns influence treatment response. The insights generated will advance our understanding of the genes that alter a patient’s response to psychiatric medication.”

Dr. Joseph Geraci, Founder and Chief Scientific & Technology Officer of NetraMark, expressed pride in this recognition and collaboration. He noted that combining CAMH’s extensive datasets with NetraAI’s explainable AI framework could uncover biologically relevant subpopulations that traditional analytics have missed. He believes this research will significantly contribute to precision medicine approaches in mental health.

Broader Implications for Healthcare

The collaboration will also evaluate an additional dataset from the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP). This dataset will facilitate cost-effectiveness analyses and explore the broader health system impact of personalized patient care. The initiative highlights the importance of integrating technological advancements in mental health research and treatment.

As the largest mental health and addiction teaching hospital in Canada, CAMH is recognized globally for its research and clinical care. It is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto and serves as a Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization Collaborating Centre. This affiliation allows CAMH to drive forward-thinking research that transforms the lives of individuals affected by mental illness and addiction.

NetraMark’s innovative approach distinguishes it from other AI methods by incorporating mechanisms that separate datasets into explainable and unexplainable subsets. This unique feature allows for more accurate insights into patient responses to treatments, potentially increasing the success rates of clinical trials.

The partnership between NetraMark and CAMH represents a pivotal moment in the application of AI in mental health research, promising to enhance understanding and treatment of complex psychiatric conditions.
