Washington Memorial Chapel Hosts Annual Wreaths Across America Ceremony

The Washington Memorial Chapel in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, will host the Third Annual Wreaths Across America Ceremony on December 13, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. This year, the event aims to lay 850 wreaths in memory of every veteran buried in its historic cemetery, as well as those who served at Valley Forge during the Revolutionary War.

The ceremony is organized in collaboration with the Society of Descendants of Washington’s Army at Valley Forge and the local Veterans Commission. Wreaths Across America is dedicated to a significant mission: to remember the fallen, honor those who serve, and educate future generations about the value of freedom.

This year, Wreaths Across America anticipates participation from over two million volunteers across more than 5,200 locations in all fifty states, as well as at sea and overseas. The ceremony at Washington Memorial Chapel not only serves as a tribute to those who lost their lives during the 1777–1778 Valley Forge Encampment but also honors the veterans interred in the Chapel’s churchyard.

As each wreath is placed, the name of a veteran will be read aloud, ensuring that their service and sacrifice are formally recognized and remembered. This solemn act fosters a sense of community and collective gratitude.

Father Tim Steeves will deliver the keynote address for this year’s ceremony, adding a personal touch to the event.

Volunteers are encouraged to participate in multiple ways. On December 12, assistance is needed for setting up wreath stands. On the day of the ceremony, volunteers will help with the wreath-laying process. Finally, on January 17, there will be a cleanup effort to remove the wreaths.
