Cali Sky Torres made her entrance into the world just after midnight on January 1, 2026, becoming the first hospital-born baby in Ventura County for the new year. Born at the Ventura County Medical Center, she arrived unexpectedly, delaying her debut beyond the anticipated due date of December 30, 2025.

Her mother, Brianna Hill, described the arrival as a reflection of her daughter’s personality, dubbing her a “stubborn Capricorn.” Cali weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces at birth and displayed a calm demeanor during her initial hours. The family, from Oxnard, California, is now celebrating their new addition.

Cali’s father, Alex Torres, who works for the Oxnard Union High School District, expressed his excitement about welcoming a third daughter. Hill, who serves as a supervisor at Pueblo Radiology in Santa Barbara, noted that the experience of becoming a parent for the third time feels rewarding. “I think the third time’s a charm. I already know what to do. It’s exciting,” she said.

The family’s anticipation for Cali’s arrival grew as the due date approached. To help induce labor, Hill underwent a membrane sweep procedure, which ultimately led to the baby’s birth. The couple had been guessing when their daughter would be born, with Torres surprisingly predicting the exact timing.

Reflecting on his role as a father to three daughters, Torres stated, “I’m a girls’ dad. I love it. It’s a blessing.” Their family now includes two older sisters, Naya, aged 10, and Mila, aged 4, who are equally eager to welcome their new sibling.

Cali’s birth continues a trend in Ventura County. Last year, the first baby of 2025, Elijah Tai Ignacio, was born at 1:31 a.m. on January 1 at Community Memorial Hospital. As families across the region celebrate the new year, the Torres family is embracing the joy and challenges of welcoming their newest member.
