Harvest Hope Farm Donates Over 700 Pounds of Fresh Produce

A small farm located north of Moorhead, Minnesota, is making significant strides in promoting healthy eating and nutrition education among young children. Harvest Hope Farm has donated over 700 pounds of fresh produce to the Peace Academy Preschool in Fargo, North Dakota, as part of its commitment to supporting local children’s health.

The farm’s initiative follows the construction of a year-round growing dome, funded by a $15,000 grant from the North Central Region Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program and an additional $50,000 grant from the Minnesota Department of Agriculture. This dome allows Harvest Hope Farm to cultivate a variety of crops throughout the year, including peas, beans, carrots, cherry tomatoes, and squash.

Harvest Hope Farm decided to donate all produce grown in the dome to the preschool for the next two years. The goal is to enhance the nutritional quality of the children’s diets by increasing their fiber intake and introducing them to fresh fruits and vegetables. The partnership not only provides essential nutrients but also offers valuable hands-on nutrition education.

In addition to the contributions from Harvest Hope Farm, Peace Academy Preschool has also established a hydroponic garden on-site. This garden helps supply fresh lettuce, further enriching the children’s meals with healthy options.
