Florida Gators, Miami, and FSU Surge in AP Poll Rankings
The Florida Gators have climbed two spots to secure the No. 13 position in the Associated Press Top 25 poll, reflecting a strong start to their season. This rise comes as the Florida State Seminoles are hot on their heels, having jumped to No. 14 after a stunning upset against Alabama last weekend. The Seminoles, unranked following a disappointing 2-10 season in 2024, are showing renewed promise under sixth-year coach Mike Norvell.
Meanwhile, the Miami Hurricanes have made a significant leap, moving up five positions to No. 10 after a hard-fought 27-24 victory over Notre Dame. This victory adds momentum to Miami’s season, which began successfully with a win against Long Island University.
As the season progresses, the Gators will face a challenging schedule. They are set to host the USF Bulls on September 7, 2024, after USF’s impressive 34-7 win over No. 25 Boise State. Following this matchup, the Gators will travel to face No. 3 LSU on September 13, where they will confront a team that has recently risen six spots in the rankings after defeating Clemson. On September 20, the Gators will visit Miami, an encounter that promises to be a highlight of the season.
The Gators’ ascent in the rankings coincides with a notable decline for Alabama. Once ranked No. 8 in the preseason, the Crimson Tide have plummeted to No. 21 following their unexpected loss in Tallahassee. This marks Alabama’s lowest ranking since 2008, when they were No. 24 in the preseason under coach Nick Saban. Currently, Alabama holds a record of 9-5 in Saban’s second season with coach Kalen DeBoer at the helm.
Historically, the Gators have not been ahead of Alabama in the AP rankings since the 2009 SEC Championship, where the No. 1 Gators faced the No. 2 Crimson Tide. That matchup, led by quarterback Tim Tebow, ended in a 32-14 defeat for Florida, a fact that adds to the rivalry’s storied narrative.
As the college football season unfolds, the dynamics among these teams continue to captivate fans and analysts alike, setting the stage for an exciting series of matchups in the coming weeks.
