East Hartford Mourns Loss of Beloved Community Figure Gilbert Andrews
Gilbert H. Andrews, a cherished member of the East Hartford community, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026, at the age of 84. He was the devoted husband of Mary Gilmister Andrews for 49 years. Born on October 22, 1941, in Hartford, Gil was the son of the late Willard and Adelaide (McKinney) Andrews.
Raised in Glastonbury, Gil graduated from Glastonbury High School and went on to have a successful career in industrial manufacturing. His professional journey was marked by hard work and dedication, reflecting his strong values.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Gil actively participated in various sports including softball, horseshoes, golf, and bowling. Notably, he continued to bowl regularly until August 2025. His passion for sports extended beyond personal participation; he was a devoted supporter of his children and grandson, often attending their athletic events and taking immense pride in their achievements.
Gil also cherished family time, enjoying games and projects with loved ones. He believed that with enough effort, anything could be repaired, and he had a habit of never discarding a scrap of wood, demonstrating his resourcefulness and practical wisdom. His kindness and generosity left a lasting impact on those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, and their three children: Paul Andrews and his wife Jolene of Marlborough, Karolyn Andrews of Manchester, and Bill Andrews of Goshen. The family also includes two grandchildren, Colin Reilly and Alicia Andrews, a sister, Louise Macca of East Hartford, and brothers Gary Andrews of Norwalk and David Andrews with his wife Brenda of Hebron. He was predeceased by his son, Gil Andrews, and his in-laws, Sebastian Macca and Leslie Andrews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on February 7, 2026, at 10 a.m. at the North American Martyrs Parish – St. Mary’s Church, located at 15 Maplewood Ave, East Hartford. Attendees are requested to go directly to the church for the service. Following the mass, burial will occur at Green Cemetery in Glastonbury.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org, a cause that resonates with many families affected by the disease. To leave condolences online, visit www.carmonfuneralhome.com.
