Grace C. Mangiameli, a beloved figure known for her vibrant personality and numerous talents, passed away on December 29, 2025, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born on May 1, 1937, in Middletown, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Maria (Milone) Mangiameli. Grace’s life was filled with cherished memories, a deep commitment to her community, and a passion for fostering connections with family and friends.

Throughout her upbringing in Middletown, Grace developed a strong sense of community and belonging. A lifelong member of St. Sebastian’s Church, she contributed to her church and local activities with enthusiasm. After graduating from Middletown High School, where she showcased her musical talents in the school marching band, Grace began her career at Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford. Starting as a typist, her determination and dedication paved the way for her to become the first female underwriter at the company.

By the time of her retirement, Grace had risen to the position of head of her own field office, frequently traveling for business in the Midwest. She often recounted a memorable tour of Clemson University, which included a visit to the football stadium and the team’s locker room, reflecting her zest for life and her appreciation for new experiences.

Grace’s interests spanned a wide range, from her love of animals—especially her cherished pets—to her enthusiasm for sports, including the New York Yankees and UCONN basketball. She also found joy in gardening, knitting, and collecting coins and Mickey Mouse memorabilia. Her knack for problem-solving extended to home improvement projects, where she demonstrated her DIY skills by painting, wallpapering, and even performing basic car maintenance.

In her later years, Grace embraced the challenge of complex jigsaw puzzles, often seeking those that tested her skills. Her artistic flair shone through in her woodworking projects, including a life-sized Santa complete with a sled and reindeer, highlighting her creative spirit.

Grace is survived by her dear sister, Josephine Zawisza, and sister-in-law Joanne Mangiameli. She also leaves behind a loving family, including several nieces and nephews: Elizabeth Cleverly (husband John), Mary Jo Logan (husband David), Gloria DePatie (husband Bill), Susan Mangiameli, Pamela Radziewicz (husband Steve), Joseph Mangiameli (wife Anne), Michael Mangiameli (wife Carrie), and Jeffrey Mangiameli (wife Michelle), along with many great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Sr. Anne Mangiameli MPF, and her brother, Joseph Mangiameli.

The family expresses their deepest gratitude to Dr. Williams and the staff at Middlesex Health Family Practice, as well as the doctors, nurses, and staff at Portland Care and Rehabilitation, for their exceptional care during Grace’s time there.

A viewing will take place on January 7, 2026, from 09:00 to 10:30 at the D’Angelo Funeral Home in Middletown, followed by a mass at St. Sebastian’s Church at 12:00. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Grace’s memory may send donations to St. Sebastian’s Church (155 Washington St, Middletown, CT 06457), the Alzheimer’s Association (donorservices.alz.org), or to a charity of their choice.
