Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Woodworker Robert A. Yantiss

The woodworking community and family members are mourning the loss of Robert Allan Yantiss, a talented craftsman who passed away on August 27, 2025, at the age of 78. Yantiss, who was a resident of Swanzey and formerly from Richmond, was known for his intricate woodwork and contributions to local artisanship.
Born on June 13, 1947, in San Diego, California, he was the son of Alvin C. Yantiss and Gladys F. (Linscott) Yantiss. Yantiss established his own company, Robert A. Yantiss Company, where he specialized as a finish carpenter. His creative work included designing unique wood products, notably pet urns, which he provided to local veterinarians. His skills extended beyond woodworking, as he was also proficient in glassware engraving and laser etching.
Yantiss was not just a master of his craft; he was a source of knowledge and inspiration for many. His passion for woodworking was matched by his love for travel, allowing him to explore various cultures and techniques that influenced his craft.
He is survived by his daughter, Gretchen Jackson, and her husband, William Jackson Sr., of Swanzey; his son, Seth Yantiss, and his wife, Jennifer, of Jacksonville, Florida; and three grandchildren: Taylor Jackson, Natalie Arvin, and Evan Cleaveland. Also mourning his loss is his brother, Ronald Yantiss, and his wife, Sue, of Surry.
A Celebration of Robert’s Life is scheduled for September 19, 2025, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Foley Funeral Home, located at 49 Court St., Keene. Family, friends, and community members are invited to attend and pay their respects.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mr. Yantiss’ memory to the Harris Center for Conservation Education, which can be found at 83 Kings Highway, Hancock, NH 03449. For those wishing to extend their condolences or share memories, an online platform is available at www.foleyfuneralhome.com.
Robert A. Yantiss will be remembered not only for his craftsmanship but also for his warmth and generosity. His legacy lives on through his family and the many lives he touched through his work.
