Award-Winning Galvin Cello Quartet to Perform at Quick Center
The acclaimed Galvin Cello Quartet will perform at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts at St. Bonaventure University on February 20, 2024, at 19:30. This concert marks the fourth event of the center’s 30th anniversary performance season and promises a diverse program showcasing works from various cultural traditions.
The quartet, which gained recognition after winning the Silver Medal at the 2021 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, was formed by musicians hailing from Brazil, South Korea, and the United States. Following their initial success, they continued to build their reputation by winning the 2022 Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition. Their name honors the Mary B. Galvin Recital Hall at Northwestern University, where three founding members—Sydney Lee, Haddon Kay, and Luiz Fernando Venturelli—studied under the esteemed cello pedagogue Hans Jørgen Jensen. The quartet welcomed a new member, James Baik, in June 2024, who also trained with Jensen.
Commitment to Musical Innovation
With a shared dedication to musical innovation and connection, the Galvin Cello Quartet aims to expand the artistic potential of the cello ensemble. Each member contributes exceptional talent and unique musical backgrounds, enriching their performances. The quartet is scheduled for several upcoming appearances, including festivals at Bravo! Vail, Ravinia, and the Ascent International Cello Festival, among others.
This concert is presented in partnership with Friends of Good Music, reflecting the Quick Center’s ongoing commitment to cultural diversity and artistic excellence. Visitors will have the opportunity to view the Quick Center’s galleries, which will open one hour before the concert and remain accessible through intermission.
Ticket Information and Community Engagement
Tickets for the performance are priced at $20 for adults, $18 for senior citizens and university employees, and $5 for students. They can be purchased online at www.ticketor.com/quickarts/tickets or by contacting the Quick Center Box Office at (716) 375-2494.
In addition to their concert, the Galvin Cello Quartet will engage local students and community members through a series of masterclasses and special performances. These events include a high school masterclass on February 19, 2024, at 10:00, and a university masterclass at 12:30 on the day of the concert, both held in the Rigas Family Theater at the Quick Center. These sessions are free and open to community members and St. Bonaventure University students. Interested participants are encouraged to register by emailing [email protected].
This combination of performance and educational outreach underscores the quartet’s commitment to fostering a love for music within the community, ensuring that their artistry resonates beyond the concert hall.
