Texas Health Plans New Hospital in McKinney to Open by 2028

Residents of North McKinney can anticipate the arrival of a full-service hospital, set to open in 2028. Texas Health Resources has announced plans for a new hospital campus located on approximately 51 acres in northeast McKinney, adjacent to U.S. 75 and Laud Howell Parkway. This facility aims to enhance healthcare access for the growing population in the region.

The new hospital is projected to feature around 60 inpatient beds alongside a dedicated women’s services center that will include labor and delivery facilities, a neonatal intensive care unit, an emergency department, surgical suites, and cardiology services. Texas Health officials describe this project as a critical expansion of their operations in northern Collin County, which will also create new employment opportunities in the area.

In a press release shared through Community Impact, Texas Health highlighted its broad presence in North Texas, including 29 hospitals and over 4,400 beds. The addition of the McKinney facility is positioned as a strategic response to the increasing demand for healthcare services in nearby cities like Princeton, Anna, and Melissa.

Design and Zoning Developments

Josh Floren, the chief operating officer of Texas Health’s Hospital Channel, emphasized that the building is being designed with future expansion in mind. The initial phase will consist of a seven-story structure with a capacity of around 60 beds. “The growth has gotten to a point where it can fully support Texas Health putting a hospital in that community,” Floren explained. Currently, the project is in the design phase, and a groundbreaking date has not yet been established.

On December 2, 2025, the McKinney City Council approved two zoning requests, establishing a planned development district for the project. This zoning allows for a maximum building height of 210 feet or twelve stories, with initial plans for a five-story hospital that could later expand vertically. The changes also permit adjacent lands for medical offices and multifamily developments, supporting a comprehensive campus buildout.

Impact on the Community

The establishment of a major hospital campus in North McKinney is expected to reduce travel times for residents who currently seek tertiary care and maternity services further south. This facility will alleviate pressure on nearby hospitals, which have been experiencing increased demand. Texas Health has indicated that the McKinney site is expected to generate a few hundred jobs, drawing parallels with its Forney campus project, estimated at approximately $320 million.

Local planning coverage suggests that the McKinney hospital will complement existing Texas Health locations in Allen, Frisco, and Plano, as the area continues to grow in terms of housing and population. As the project remains in the design stage, Texas Health has not yet disclosed specific cost estimates or a detailed construction timeline. With zoning approvals secured, developers must now focus on obtaining necessary permits and completing grading and site work before the anticipated 2028 opening.
